Rose Mary Rey
February 20, 1964-November 10, 2024
Rose was born to Christina Ramirez and Peter O. Rey Sr. on the beautiful Thursday of February 20th, 1964 in Bakersfield California.
She is survived by her daughter Haylee Rey and son-in-law Ruben Tellez Jr., her granddaughters Penelope and Luna Tellez, her siblings Peter O. Rey Jr. and Anita Nelson, and her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dad Peter O. Rey Sr., her mama Maria O. Rey, her mom Christina Ramirez, her baby brother Richard R. Rey and nephew AJ Nelson.
My mom lived a very full life. As a child and through her teens she got amazing opportunities to travel to various placeswith her cousin-siblings the Durans: Roxanne, Tricia, Debbie, Raulie and Tessie making the best memories and stories that will be forever cherished. She was very outgoing in her younger years participating in sports like volleyball and softball. She was a part of the Arvin High band all four years playing the drums and clarinet. She was an extremely hard worker, mainly for Texaco and Shell, for over 25 years.
My mom was the most loving and giving person I know. Her heart was so big that she would give her last dollar if she thought someone else needed it more. She was incredibly funny and all around just a big kid. She was always making jokes and goofy faces especially to those who looked like they were having a rough day just to try and put a smile on their face.
My mom loved many things in life including music, movies, her Raiders, traveling and food. But most of all she loved being a Yai Yai. Penny and Luna had the best Yai Yai who constantly spoiled them rotten. Always (not so) secretly giving them things even after I've already said no. Whenever I would call her on it, I always got the same response with her mischievous smirk, "I'm a grandma; that's what we do." I'm so glad our girls got the time with you that they did, Mama. I know they will forever cherish the memories made with you. And although you're not here physically to see them grow, I know you'll be with us in spirit, always watching over us.
We love you so much, Mama. This isn't a goodbye so much as it's a "see you later, alligator..."
