Orlando Vara Contreras Orlando Vara Contreras was born on June 26, 1963 in Los Angeles, California to Raymond and Rosie Contreras. He was the second of six children, his brother Paul, sisters Annette, Valerie, Diana and Melissa. In 1973, at the age of 10 years old the family moved to Arvin, CA. He attended Arvin High School in 1978. One year later at the age of 16, he began a part-time job with the Arvin Teller as a paperboy. In 1981, the  company moved to Bakersfield and changed its name to Reed Print, WHere Orlando was able to secure full time employment as a Printer, running the weekly papers. This was also the year he met a young girl named Irma and they married shortly after. They had four children, Orlando Jr, Michelle, Michael, and Kimberlee. He had a total of eleven grandchildren, Christopher, Amaya, Nicholas, Alexia, Natalie, Michael, Leah, Kaylee, Emilee, Adam, and Jenessa. He continued working at Reed Print, for the next 37 years, until it's closure. On January 1, 2012 Orlando dedicated his life to God and accepted Jesus as his Lord and personal Savior during as alter call at Life House Church in Bakersfield, CA. He recently began a new chapter in his life, by moving to Texas and becoming a Ranch Hand. Orlando enjoyed the country living, openness and friendly people that Texas had to offer. This new chapter of his life was short lived. On September 8, 2019 he was involved in a tragic traffic accident that ended his life with us. Orlando was loved by many and could always put a smile on anyone's face. Through stories, jokes and tales, it was easy for him to make conversation with anyone he encountered. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with everyone. He will be greatly missed and although he is gone to a better place, he will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts and memories.  Viewing and Celabration Of Life will be Saturday September 21, 2019 starting at 11:00 AM at Life House Church 3311 Manor St, Bakersfield, CA  Alma Funeral Home & Crematory 661-638-0444
