Charles Alfred Neville was born January 31st, 1930 to Harold and Bessie Neville in Evanston, Wyoming. When Charlie was 9, the family moved to Bakersfield. He attended Williams Elementary and Washington Jr. High, graduating from East Bakersfield High School in 1948. While in high school, he excelled in track. At age 11, Charles went to work for The Bakersfield Californian as a "hawker" at the corner of California and Union Ave. From that point on, he was a dedicated and loyal employee for The Bakersfield Californian, where he worked for 54 years. Charles always seemed to have endless energy and ideas. He owned and operated several Jolly Kone Drive-ins in addition to his full time employment. During his life, he was active in many organizations, including Kern Kiwanis where he served as President from 1998-1999. He was a member of the LDS Church, where he loved working with the youth and presided as a Bishop; 2nd Counselor in the Stake Presidency; and in various Priesthood callings. He proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. In May of 2014, Charles was thrilled to be a part of the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Above all else, Charles was always a family man. He was a devoted husband and took great pride in his 9 children and14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bettie Taylor. He is survived by his brother George Neville; wife of 53 years, Ann Neville; his children: Sherry Belluomini (Anthony), Charlie (Catherine), Ronald (Lara), Sandra Rosengreen, Craig, Tricia, Kim, David (Alicia), Melissa Rosales (Rudy), and his 14 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor Flight Kern County, 8200 Stockdale Hwy, Suite M-10, Box 255, Bakersfield, CA 93311. Services will be held Saturday, March 7th at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5600 Panorama. Burial will be Monday, March 9th at 10:45 at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mtn. Blvd, Arvin, CA.
